Module 2: Physical Wellness and Setting Goals

Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is important in keeping our bodies healthy. Physical wellness is about finding a balance between activity, nutrition, and your mental well-being. The pros of having healthy physical wellness is that you will lower the risk of getting a disease and depression. You will also have a higher life expectancy, become stronger and more confident, healthier bones, and improve your sleep. There are five health-related components of physical activity: body fat composition, flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance.

SMART Goals

Setting goals for yourself is very important. Goals help you by keeping you motivated to accomplish goals in your life. Goals can either be short or long-term, depending on what you are striving for. Goals are especially important when we talk about your wellness. When you set wellness goals, they need to be SMART goals. A SMART goal is a type of goal that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

Specific - Your goal should be clear and concise. When creating your goal, you should think about what you want to accomplish.

Measurable - Your goal should have a numerical value in it so that it can be easily measured. Having a goal that can be measured can help you show growth. However, make sure the numerical value you choose is reasonable.

Achievable - Make sure the goal you chose is challenging but doable. If your goal is too challenging, you will get discouraged.

Relevant - Set goals that are important to you. The more important the goal is to you, the more motivated

Time-Bound - Make a deadline for when you want to achieve your goal. Most people work better when there is a deadline because it would prevent people from procrastinating.
